Raise a Reader! | Feb. 21, 2020

In celebration of National PTA’s Take Your Family to School Week in February, the Woodburn PTA and school leadership are hosting Raise a Reader!, an event focused on sharing the joy of reading.

On Friday, February 21st   families are invited to attend a reading hour in their child’s classroom. A special guest reader in each classroom will read a story aloud to students, and family visitors will have a chance to read one-on-one with their children. Tips on encouraging reading at home and reading resources will be available. The event will take place between 10 am to 12 pm (see specific times by grade):

Grades 1, 3, 4, 5, and 6 from 10 am – 10:45 am
Grades K and 2 from 11 am – 11:45 am

The PTA and Woodburn School encourage families to read together at home and share photos on social media using the hashtags #woodburnreads and #raiseareader. 

Spanish translation will be available on the day of the event and transportation between Woodburn and Fairmont Gardens will be provided.

The PTA is honored to have a received a $1,000 2020 Take Your Family to School Week Grant, sponsored by Office Depot OfficeMax and the National PTA.

Teacher & Staff Appreciation Breakfast

Teacher and Staff Appreciation breakfast takes place Tuesday, December 17.

Thank you to all who have offered to support the event, whether by way of food and drinks, and setting and clean up!

Reminders:
Food/drink items should include ingredients list, and be labeled “Teacher Appreciation Breakfast”

2 options for dropping off food/drink items: 
1)
 drop off your items in the cafeteria at 7:30am on Tuesday 12/17
or 
2) drop off in the office during school hours on Monday 12/16
(non-perishable items in the office, and perishable items in the fridge in the Clinic). 

For those who will help set up, please arrive to school at 7:30am Tuesday, 12/17.
For those who will help clean up, please arrive a little before 9am. 

FCHS Homecoming Parade | Oct. 25

Falls Church High School Homecoming Parade

Friday, October 25 | 4:45pm

Join your Wildcat classmates to march in the Falls Church High School Homecoming Parade.

  • Participants should meet at 4:45 pm on Oct. 25th at FCHS Entrance 7 to line up.
  • Wear a Woodburn – shirt or something green.
  • The parade starts at 5:30pm and will end by 6:10pm.
  • After the parade, there will be a Tailgate Celebration in the outdoor basketball courts with food, games, & music!
  • PARADE ROUTE on Friday, Oct. 25
    • Right onto Jacks Ln.
    • Right onto Holly Hill Dr.
    • Left on Kenney Drive
    • Left on Carol Lane
    • Right on Holly Hill Drive
    • Left on Marc Drive
    • End in FCHS Parking Lot (near door #8)

For students who want to participate in the parade with a chaperone, please complete and return the form from Thursday folders, or email us with the student’s name, grade, and teacher, by Tuesday, Oct. 22.

Football Game after the Parade
After the parade, the FCHS Homecoming Football game vs. Wakefield H.S. kicks off at 7:00pm. Admission to the game is $5.00. Halftime will include the Jaguar Marching Band, the Homecoming Court and Class Floats!

FCHS is celebrating 75 years and this year’s Homecoming Celebration theme is “Timeless”

Wildcat Dance & Costume Party

Friday, October 18
7-8:30pm | Woodburn Gymnasium

  • Wear your favorite costume (NO weapons or masks allowed).
  • Live DJ! Dance and enjoy the music with your friends.
  • Have your picture taken at the photo booth. 
  • Refreshments will be on sale at the Woodburn snack bar.

IMPORTANT
All students must be accompanied by an adult who remains at the school the entire time the children are at the dance.

This is a free event, sponsored by the Woodburn PTA.

Teacher Appreciation Week | May 5-10

Teacher Appreciation Week kicks off Sunday, May 5, at Woodburn!
Woodburn families are invited to stop by the school lobby on Sunday, May 5, from 4-5pm to decorate the sidewalks and recognition signs for our wonderful Woodburn staff!

Plan ahead for Tuesday and Thursday:

Treats on Tuesday, May 7: Send in some sweet treats with your child to share with their Teachers and “Specials.

Supplies on Thursday, May 9: Send in classroom and other educational supplies.
