Get Creative with the PTA: Share your Ideas

At the Oct. 16 PTA meeting, some great ideas were generated about projects to focus on to improve our school and student programs. We need your help to add to and choose from some of these initiatives.   Please comment below with your thoughts and ideas!  You can also them with Sharon Toda directly.

Free Library Event: Native Americans of Virginia

Thomas Jefferson Library is hosting an interactive program for children age 6-12  about Native Americans of Virginia on November 3d at 1:00.   The program, presented by Hidden Oaks Nature Center,  will be a great resource for students learning about Native Americans.

All participants need to register through the library, but the program is free.  Register here.

Literacy Night and October PTA

Two great events at Woodburn this Thursday, October 16.

6:00 – 6:30pm PTA Meeting
Join us before checking out Literacy Night for a brainstorming speed-round:

  • What topics/guest speakers would you like the PTA to invite to our meetings (i.e.Kindergarten, Transition to Secondary, Internet safety, Advanced Academics, etc.)
  • What initiatives, events, or programs would you like to see at Woodburn (something you’ve seen at the Library or other schools, etc.)?
  • What physical improvements would you like to see implemented by the PTA (i.e., playground structure, musical instruments, outdoor garden, etc.)

6:30-8pm Literacy Night
Learn more about what your child is learning in class to become a super reader and writer! Teachers will share some fun games to play at home together to reinforce those reading skills, and you can take home free books and activities. Everyone wins!

Parents and kids can play and practice reading skills together with games at PBSKIDS.org. Play Letter GamesReading Games, and read stories.
